Thanks! I believe I can as well, but well, It's risky and hard game, as everyone know what can SHP do.
It's like, a mini monster team vs a average team. If you get what I mean, haha.

:) That's why I ask you. What you want to be? You want to be help Singapore National team or you want to be manager national team? :) For me simple I wanna see Singapore team high rank, that's all. And them one more thing that database may be important, But that 200 rosters how many rosters will be over 21? how many rosters will be reached good skill in now? Finally if you want to be manage what is your plan? If you plan will be possible I will not join election. I don't want to see any more like this season Singapore National team happening. That's all. Pls help Singapore National team. Pls join and work together with us for SG.

There are a lot of questions out there, but I am slow at writing, so I’ll just try my best.

I think there are 2 main questions. First one is why I would like to become the manager. Second is how exactly I’ going to manage if I am elected. I’ll answer them 1 by 1. This time question 1 first.

Actually I have answered the first question. I said previously I am in for myself, for Ben and for the SGP community.

Firstly, I have a very dominant mother, making me an introverted person and having low self-esteem. (this is a word I learnt at universityJ) I don’t believe I am able to do anything with my own effort. Then several years ago, I learnt of this game accidentally in England. Then I started to play this game. At first I thought that a salary $7000 guy is a very good player because he is better than anyone on my given team. Then I bid $816,000 on a 22yo $8000 salary center because of his MVP potential. Not long after I knew I had done something terrible. But I have got addicted to this game. I got a new team and started everything over. At that time, I bought an SGP trainee (that’s Abu Baker) and I saw Ben’s ad looking for scouts. I thought I knew this game enough and I could help others. And most importantly, I thought joining the SGP staff would be a great challenge for myself. I wanted to see what I could do. Hong Kong is a large community and it certainly didn’t need me, so SGP seems a perfect choice for me. And my scouting career proves to be hard but rewarding before I was forced to leave. (I will talk more about my scouting career in future posts) Now I have more time and the chance accidentally comes. I want to use these 2 seasons to show the SGP community and also myself that I can do a great job.

And next, I do it for Ben. Like many others, Ben is like a big bro to me. Back a few seasons ago when I volunteered to be a scout, I just started a new team and my world ranking is around 35000, but he warmly welcomed me and taught me this and that. He never questioned my loyalty. We had a good time together and it’s really painful that I needed to go. Then he is away now, but he finds me and encourages me to continue his job. I want to do the best I can to reward his trust in me. Then 2 seasons later, he’ll certainly come back and I’ll return to my scout role if time allows at that time. (to be continued...)

And now, perhaps this is the most important reason why I candidate myself and it is also related to Ben. I share Ben’s SGP vision and I would hope that philosophy is continued. And I’m not sure STN or others have this kind of concept or not.

I think about it for a long time. Then I think I best summarize this so-called vision in 3 points:
1) the role of U21
2) the development of a team together with SGP
3) team interest vs U21 interest

If you ask me what is my main target being an U21 manager, I would not say I would bring SGP to top 4 or top 8 in the coming tournament or something like that, and I would not say I would lead SGP to move up the world rank to XX either, and I really don’t think U21 has anything to do with B3. For me, the most important purpose or meaning of leading U21 is to foster a group of semi-products who can become the cornerstone of our NT for many years with consistent training after 21. I’m not saying result is not important. I know that all of us have high hope on next season since we are the host, so result is actually important. But how do you get good results? And more importantly, how do you get good results for every season, for both U21 and NT? Constant supply of good human resources is the key and those tactics stuff, though I also know very well, is only the supplementary part. When I first joined the SGP staff, I looked through the roster and found a few players with only “star” potential and salary between $10000 to $20000. It was not good. After I became the scout, I once contacted a foreign manager and he said SGP U21 was too weak and he had no desire to train his player hard to play for U21. Then now, several seasons later, do you have the same feeling as me that SGP U21 is getting better? Just look through the roster and you can say some of them have a really bright future. Take a look at the NT roster as well. You’ll see the proportion of young players in SGP NT is much higher than some other countries, like Germany for example. AKL and PJL are starting to have roles in NT even though they are only 23 and 24. This is what Ben has always wanted to achieve as well as I in the coming 2 seasons. (I’m not taking credits for an improving U21 or NT team. Indeed, all credits to Ben, Eric and all other devoted managers) When our players get better, both our U21 and NT will get better. With consistently improving result, we will start to get recognition from the rest of the BB community. This is more important than the factual number (like world rank XX), I think. To summarize, the result of U21 is certainly important (especially for this coming season. I’m very clear that U21 can’t disappoint SGP managers) But I think result is not and should not be the sole indicator of whether the U21 staff have done a good job. (maybe suddenly a key player gets injured or the grouping is bad) To me, the most important thing is that U21 is able to supply good prospects which can serve for the NT for many years to come. This is what I call the “core value” of U21. It takes time to see the “result” and is also quite abstract as an “assessment tool”, but it is indeed important.

Haha, I ‘ve just covered point 1. Now point 2. (this is the so-called transitional paragraph so that everyone can take a breath…)

There are about 80 teams in SGP. I would say only about half of them really know this game and have a objective and play this game actively. I have come across many cases that a rather mediocre and quite new team gets 1 or 2 good draftees but don’t even know these draftees are good and can change their teams. That’s why I think U21 is important. We are not only teaching them how to train. We actually teach them the game, give them a direction and lastly, our ultimate goal is to get them immersed in the game and hang in the game for a long time. This is what I call a win-win situation. The SGP U21 gets an excellent new blood and the SGP community gets a new and real member. I am a down-to-earth person so let me give you some real numbers. Previously I said there are about 200 players in our database and most of them are 18-21 yo. So you divide 200 by 4 then it’s about 50 for every draft. Out of these 50, only about 15 have the potential to become something big (at least pern star potential and salary >3000) and most of these 15 talents are in teams that you’ll never see in this forum and you’ve never heard of. Let say I put in much effort and finally 5 “newbie” teams constantly train their talents and become the next Singapore FC. That’s already a good number. I must say the situation now is quite worrying. Take a look at II.3, for example, and you’ll see many unknown teams that quietly built up their teams through trainees back several seasons ago have now left the game. Many II.3 teams last login on 10/4 or something like that, including Botanical Garden, Oxley, Dolly and Kiasu, which were all good local talent trainers. We cannot let the situation become even worse.

(This part is a bit off-topic but I think it’s also somewhat relevant so I’ll talk about it briefly. In previous part I talk about how U21 can help the growth of the SGP community, but actually the role of U21 in that is very limited. We can only approach those teams owning good talents. How about for the other ABC teams out there? In this forum, always those established teams speak. In every NT / U21 election, at most 20 people vote. If you are one of the new teams, won’t you feel it’s a quite lonely start? Many countries have an active gathering place, either the local forum in BB or an off-site forum. But what we see in SGP is that the only 2 active threads are “NT” thread and “U21” thread. This is not nice. So I think there should be a “Q&A” thread and a “new guy say hello” thread. I think no matter who becomes the U21 manager (actually this has nothing to do with U21), something like this is worth a try in future. Ideally, for a small community like, it is possible to set up a mentor system. Someone regularly monitors if there are any new teams and provides help. Of course, this will be a much more complicated thing.)

The third thing I’m going to talk about is the conflict between team interest and U21 interest. This is about how I prefer to train a player, especially for big men. Take a look at the rosters of some bigger countries and we’ll easily find some centers with $60000 or above salary. This is fully possible even for a small nation like us. All we need is a 18 yo center with decent starting skills and also some dedicated training. But I never encourage this, in the past and in the future. I have said that the result of U21 is important and if we have some monsters generating 16-17 rating every match, winning will be indeed easier. But does this fit team interest? Or I should say, can the team training these players really benefit and become a main force? The answer is probably no. From the point of NT / U21, having monsters never hurt (it’s a pity that we only have 1 FSX!). But how about the teams? Unless you are already a very good team, you will have big difficulty keeping these monsters (sometimes even 2 at the same time). We’ve seen many such cases: 21 or 22yo monsters selling for little. What I stress is a step-by-step sustainable growth of teams through training. How can this be done? You don’t need to be too rush when you train. Get the main skills to about level 13 by the end of 20yo would be OK. If this target is achieved, why don’t spend some time on secondary, especially passing? If the team grows at a roughly the same pace as the player, it would be very nice. This is important because every team wants to have an “icon” for a very long time. And it is the presence of such “icons” that attach managers to the game and the community. Build with your own draftees. This is the traditional BB value and it is never wrong. More dedicated managers and more SGP young great talents playing for their hometown team is what makes the whole SGP community better and bigger in the long run..

This is what I want to say for now. I know it’s awfully long. Thanks for your attention of reading it. But this is me. When I was a scout, I often wrote lengthy bbmails, saying this minor thing and that minor thing.

I’ll talk about how I’ll actually manage later. Please spare me if I don’t have much to say in the election speech.

Lastly I have a question for STN: what is your top priority if you become the manager? Honestly all along I don’t understand why you are suddenly interested in U21. I remember long time ago, Ben and I discuss the characteristics of different local managers. You have never trained a proper U21 before and you even seem to have refused to train. Therefore if I have to choose, Singapore FC is better as he has trained some great players, like Sun Qingxing in the current U21 team.
