Two games went in our favor today.

Taiwan knocking off Poland is a huge result.

An important blowout win for us. A somewhat close first half followed by a monster 74 point second half over Al Maghrib, making the final 124-76. (37522)

Push the ball gave us great numbers across the board, with 8 players scoring in double figures. Defensively we held tough, allowing not too many points against the single hot shooter in their patient. Superb effort from the second unit in the garbage time in the 4th quarter.

MVP: everybody (team 50%+ from the field)
LVP: nobody (3 turnovers total for the game!)

Fun fact: Guevemont hacked their SG 24 seconds into the game and sent him to the hospital for the day.

The group now looks like this:

Canada 2-0 +60
Poland 1-1 +24
Taiwan 1-1 -4
Al Maghrib 0-2 -80

Showdown vs Poland next Monday. A close loss should even get us into worlds, unless Taiwan puts up an incredible game vs Al Maghrib.

GO CANADA

Really? Since season 25? Grats to Cletus but I can't help feel a bit of pride since I've been training a draftee since he was 18 and picked a guy up when he was just turning 19. It had been a long time since training since my national team days with Herman Kearns.

Love the Princeton though Cletus!

On a side note I've just put some former draftees that could have possibly been someone but didn't make the cut for 1k each on the TL. lol

Yeah I just checked, last time was season 25, after the really great run in season 24 by Kumiko (loss in america's final against the USA) and a direct qualification to the worlds

Thanks everyone! Thank you to the trainers who have given me a team I can use different tactics with this season. We have a lot of great builds and though at a disadvantage with salary and DMI against Taiwan and even more-so by Poland, we came out ahead.

First I looked at the Taiwan result and was very "Oh my god, their PD is good, a loss to Poland and we'll see the worlds spot go to a team we beat."

Then I looked at the match viewer and saw that Poland used more effort and was very "Yep, there goes worlds."

Then I scrolled down the play-by-play and we had a beautiful first quarter and held a fairly comfortable lead throughout and was very "Yyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I'm glad to have Canada in the worlds, especially without selling the farm on enthusiasm. I really wouldn't care for being there just to lose every game from bad enthusiasm, and played this second chance accordingly.

Game recap to follow.

Poland 97 Canada 110. (37524) 3-0 and off to the world championships! What more needs to be said? A lot!

Facing a favored look inside offense using more effort, the Canadians played the game of their lives up to this point.

This Canadian team has skills. This Canadian team has heart. This Canadian team has well trained balanced players who can play as a team.

How'd we win?
1. Held them to just over 50% shooting while making almost 50% ourselves.
2. 11-for-27 from downtown. Just, YES! 1-for-9 for them.
3. We don't foul a lot. They had just 7 free throws using look inside.
4. We don't turn the ball over. We had just 2 turnovers. That's just 13 TO's in our last 3 games.
5. We have depth. Starters +39 and backups +26.
6. Everyone moves the ball. Starters with 5,5,5,7, and 4 assists. Fun to watch.
7. We have Cletus. Ha, just kidding.

SF Girouard had another outstanding game. 12/24 (3/7, 2/2) for 29pts, 5reb, 5ast.
PG Cotterell shot the lights out coming in from the bench. 7/8 (4/5, 4/6) for 22 pts in just 20 minutes.
SG Auge shot 7/10 giving us that scoring from the SG position Canada sometimes lacks.
PG Bacon had a bounce back game. 8/13 for 16 pts and 4 blks.

Enjoy this one for a week and back on the court next Monday facing even stiffer competition.

GO CANADA!
