Its not that players are only trainable till they are 20 its more that its late to start training a player with 4 to 5k salary when they are 20.

like aussie dude said... at his age his skills should be higher... u could train him but you'd prob get a stronger player in the long run if u got a decent trainee... wait till u see what u get from ur draft before deciding if u want to buy a trainee.. u might luck out :)

as to the prices, scout around... i've read that the market might get flooded with trainees that are unwanted... so prices may drop... and u might land a better deal.. not too sure about this... I jus started 1/3 tru this season...

Awright man, here's what you need to look for:

18 years old. Preferably from the U.S., since that's where you're located. I don't know whether you're training small guys or big guys (you'll need to commit to one or the other) but you're showing us a PG so I assume you're going small (me too). He should be no taller than 6' 2", with potential no less than perennial all-star (seriously, if you have the money and can find the right guy go for the best potential possible). It's important that he have good inside stats to begin with, since you're not going to train those. Otherwise, he must also have decent JS and OD (mediocre or better for both). This is because those two stats train very slowly (and that's also why I would recommend getting rid of the guy you're showing us now, he just doesn't have it in those important areas). Driving and Handling aren't too tough to train, and unless you really want a PG you don't need to put more than a couple of weeks here and there into Passing. Example, here's a guy I got for $300K:

Fabien Épinette (13373743)
Point Guard

Weekly salary: $ 3 705

DMI: 46600
Age: 18
Height: 6'2" / 188 cm
Potential: superstar
Game Shape: proficient

Jump Shot: average Jump Range: inept
Outside Def.: average Handling: respectable ↑
Driving: average Passing: strong
Inside Shot: awful Inside Def.: inept
Rebounding: mediocre Shot Blocking: awful
Stamina: inept Free Throw: respectable

Experience: atrocious

Not great in the inside categories, but serviceable and trainable. And probably already worth nearly $1M, or about $700K profit.

Wait until next season, so you can get your man at the very beginning of his career. Then, once you've picked him up, spend $500K on a cheap "superior" (level 5) trainer and start doing nothing but one-position training, mostly to JS and OD. And in 4 seasons, viola! Superstar.

Assuming you want him to be an SF:

Jump Shot: atrocious <--- this will be a problem : (
Jump Range: average <-- not great but alright if you want an inside based SF
Outside Def.: pitiful <--- this is prob one of the longest skills to train...normally people want this at respectful at least
Handling: respectable <-- nice
Driving: inept <-- ok
Passing: respectable <-- nice
Inside Shot: inept <- so so
Inside Def.: mediocre <-- decent I guess
Rebounding: pitiful
Shot Blocking: respectable
Stamina: awful
Free Throw: inept ↑

I know he was cheap @ 1k... but his stats are not really suitable to be an SF. Mostly new players like you and me aren't really advised to train SF's. Perhaps you could try making him a guard. But since you only paid 1 k I suggest you sell him off.

For an SF, in general it depends on the type of game you play. If its inside based or outside based attacks.

If inside based, you'll need to put these attributes at mediocre / average minimum when you do a player search:

JS, OD, ID,IS, DRIVING at average an above.

If outside based:

JS, JR, OD, ID, DRIVING at average an above.

Also if you're training SG / PG, don't forget to make sure his height is less than 190, otherwise he'll have penalties when training small men skills, like prev poster said :)

If I were you I'd jus get a 3rd pg / sg and buy a ready made SF who is strong in these attributes. Cause trainin SF's is tricky. And u need a player with decent potential. Prob All-star and above.

Yeah, just about. Maybe a little less, but not by much. It's hard to find young players with balanced starting stats of average or better in just about every category and that kind of potential. But don't listen to me, check it on the transfer list.

Except that the low price indicates no one else wanted him. And the reason is he's got really low starting stats in two critical categories. I agree with Vicelicious, dump him and get someone better.
