If you stick with the game, your perspectives will change -- I remember asking on these boards something to the effect "how can any player be worth $25,000 a week?" Now I am playing against teams who have such players as sixth men.

One little thing I found useful at your stage -- I am absolutely convinced a lot of people overpay for potential. When you search for players, cap your search at "starter" (or lower) -- a "6th man" potential, fully trained, will still be a formidable div. v player, and very useful at div. iv. That is, if you are interested in training (and keeping) a player. If you need immediate help, go for age -- someone who is their upper 20s still has four or more good seasons left -- but at the level you bought him at. You can not anticipate any training pops, but again, I found the market underpriced such players and they suited my needs wonderfully when I was first starting out.

Good luck.

Thats true. 25-27 years old players seems that they dont get any love. Actually my best players are ''old'', but i bought them on relative good price. For example i bought my SG for 4.3M at the beginning of the season. Now his estimation is $ 5 400 000 to $ 7 300 000.

A big secret of the game in my opinion is to know when to sell and when to buy...

Oh this is so true. And I think it is a huge thing really. It depends on numerous factors. Many don't possess the knowledge when buying especially the first players, think potential equals ability or something, but also psychologically, if you save for a long time and buy a player, maybe it is nicer to have an all-star potential guy as a new star than one with potential benchwarmer.. Anyway, there is money to be saved or lost. Every beginner should read this sentence as one of the first and most important!

people overpay for potential
people overpay for potential
people overpay for potential
people overpay for potential
people overpay for potential

I'll be interested in a player I believe can make my team better right away and will end up in a bidding war that I almost always lose.

When you target players you'd like to purchase, are you looking at the Auction End date/time, or just the transfer price? There's a big difference between a $100,000 transfer than ends in 10 minutes and a $100,000 transfer that ends in three days. The latter is going to go way, way, way up before the auction ends. It's the nature of auctions. You may be targeting guys you can't really afford. Just a suggestion.

Thanks. But I do notice the Auction end date/time. It's not so much not being able to afford a player, it's just my frustration that the person who ends up buying the player doesn't end up using him at all (or relisting him).

Thanks! I think I'm doing the winning think ok. I'm 13-1. Still want to improve my team though! I'm still learning and trying not to be so impressed by potential on TL players. That's where I seem to over spend!

That's great advice. I like winning and developing a few players. I won't develop a uber star yet under my circumstances, but the salary limitations are a good reminder.
