In Malaysia, our local players have weird names which don't culturally make sense.

You can speak with the local LA team. Currently, the only LA for Bahasa melayu is LA-.- (52658).

Which would be better, We have the ability to change the names of our rookies, or we have a database that only allows 2 names that are compatible to be chosen

The first is unlikely to happen. It is even more unlikely to result in a selection of good names, because people do crazy and stupid things when you let them. Even personally, while I would not make up names or use celebrity names, I would definitely be very tempted to come up with some puns to amuse myself.

Unfortunately, I am afraid the current name database does not easily allow the latter option. For every language, there are just two long lists of names. The name generator picks one from each list. I think there may be more lists for some languages, but I don't know if they are used. There may be some legacy stuff still in the system. If the problem is that both first name and last name are actually legit and realistic but do not work well together (different cultural background), then your LA team is unfortunately unable to help you. As a suggestion, I can support this. But realistically, it is unlikely to happen due to huge amounts of manual work. If the system can be modified a little bit, it could perhaps be done in some very active communities. This anyway involves a huge amount of LA work.

I have a much easier idea. I would love to be able to name my draft picks. Make it limited and costly. Make it the same as renaming your team. So it costs $100,000. You can only do it before the first game of the season. You can only do it to a rookie you drafted yourself. Final caveat is the GMs can be notified or can check and any offensive or innapropriate names will be removed without a refund.

Easy.

This wouldn't work because someone could make a name that is gibberish. My shooting guard might be named Rpwwazwe Fgyiihdf.
One thing that could happen is there could be a whole bunch of names you have to choose from, and the GMs and BBs just rule out certain combinations.

What if someone wants to name one of their players 'Knightsbridge'?

From what I gathered, this is the biggest problem as creating this feature and enforcing it wouldn't be too hard. You can argue this is not a real problem, but you would have to do so with the BBs (not me) and with some legal argument from US or International (Internet) laws.

That shouldn't be a problem - if someone were to try to put in an unallowable name, there would be a popup from the NSA saying "I can't allow you to do that. Please remain where you are. You will be processed shortly by the first available agent."

You have to chose first name and last name from the database of the country you are playing.

This is an excellent suggestion.

I really don't see why people are so worried about this. In Australia there are ridiculous team names everywhere and I can think of several that are also potentially offensive like "C U Next Tuesday"or "The Cleveland Steamers" for example. Likewise anyone can rename themselves at any time with no moderation and no cost yet the sky is not falling. The only place where it is a bit out of control is in chat where people constantly impersonate other managers and then kick others from chat leaving the victim with no idea who did it.

I also like what the next user said, that if you end up naming your player Osama Bin Laden or something similar you will get a free one way trip paid for by the US government to Guantánamo Bay Cuba.
