shot block results in either more block shots or more altered shots thus causing more missed shots.
more importantly though is the questions
is it worth the added salary? and is it better then just putting the same stats into inside def?

I agree. Stick with ID and eventually you will get a SB bump as well. I look at players with good SB skill as just a bonus but I don't plan on training it very often.
