My team's salary floor kicks in during the offseason, but I finished 8th and won't pay anything yet. After my trainees update I think there will be about 40k difference to make up. So what sort of players should I look to buy during this playoff period?

I haven't made any transfers in my career yet, I'll be training two positions (probably SF/PF) for at least half of next season. My current crop of original players can fill in as capable backups so I think three starters (one C and two versatile guards) would be best to buy. I have about 200k to spend.

Edit: Mainly want to know if I should buy older cheaper players, or younger ones that are resellable.

Old cheap players is the way to go... guys that you can use for the next 2 seasons. (34 or younger next seasons).

I'd look for guards with good OD and starter a C (if he has some OD that would be good too). Your goal should be to try to have guys good enough to win you road games next season so you can get more people your home games.

And congratz on having the will power and gumption to stay off the transfer market.

With a 9k arena you will rack in a lot of cash at the salary floor.

Question: what level trainer do you have?

Thanks for some great advice. I don't check the TL often but last time I did there was a nice English player selling within a couple of hours and I just couldn't pass him up. So here is my first ever purchase:

Age: 35
Salary: $33 709
Jump Shot: prolific Jump Range: respectable
Outside Def.: wondrous Handling: prolific
Driving: sensational Passing: wondrous
Inside Shot: average Inside Def.: respectable
Rebounding: average Shot Blocking: atrocious
Stamina: awful Free Throw: proficient
Experience: prolific

I have a level 4 trainer (won't be training this guy of course!)

I like the way you're playing :) But it was probably better to stretch that salary over 3 players, PG,SG,C.

That's a good buy. Find a 10k guy to play at C. And maybe a guard to run with this guy. His stamina is on the lower end but it can help maintaining minutes. He might struggle in fast paced offenses as well.

Normally I'd agree with the post above but he's a native player so he'll boost your Merch.

I wouldn't worry too much about the other players nationality though since you shouldn't be paying them too much.

Lvl 4 trainer is perfect.

I just checked his transfer history and he was drafted by... me?! Or the team I "inherited" rather. That's pretty cool, I think I will keep him forever so his career comes full circle.
