I get another 3 rubbish draftees this year, but since I have invested nothing in scouting, I'm not complaining.

But when I browsed through the draftees in my league, it's really shocking and frustrating. The best draftee is a 18yo pallstar centre with $5200 salary. The second best is 18yo MVP PG $3300. Then the others are all rubbish. I have played this game for quite a few seasons. I remember previously there are about 4-5 18yo draftees with potential at least pallstar and salary above $4000 in every league. But now? Less quality draftees. There are still excellent prospects out there, but only 1 to 2 in every several leagues.

This comes down to whether it is still worth spending money on scouting. Most likely even if you have the first pick and scout every draftee, you only get a 18yo pallstar or superstar with salary about $4000 to $5000 in return. if you sell this draftee, you only get back 100k to 200k, which may be even less than the money you spend on scouting.

Many teams try their best to lose and even willing to relegate so as to get the 1st pick (and save money as well). Then they find their "building block" is a mediocre player. It's quite bad for this game and I can foresee that in near future the overall talents in the game will get worse. Those small nations will suffer the most because a great young player is what attaches a manager to the game. And the gap between big nations and small nations will be even bigger.

Or is BB trying to use this way to combat tanking?

The draft is a crapshoot and always has been. Some years your league's draft might have several good prospects, others it might have 1 or even none.

This is not a conspiracy, it's just a computer program spitting out random results over literally tens of thousands of different leagues around the world. .

Of course! These 18 year olds don't have weekly parties where they break into your bank account and set hundreds of thousands of dollars on fire.

This is pretty true. But IMO it's hard to deny that the overall number of quality draftees is decreasing. This makes those good ones even more outstanding, which in turn means that this game gradually depends more on luck. And lower league teams have less chance to get good trainees coz they cant drafte one nor they have big money. Those rare good draftees on the market are often bought by former super teams selling all superstars entering rebuilding mode.

Well if you look around some "new players" it seems to me that the potential is really important for center and PF, in other positions you can build a great player with potential all star so imho the quality of the draftee should be based on the skills instead of potential or skills + potential.

In your league, there are some good potential draftees: (perennial allstar or above)

I agree with your point. But what I am really concerned about is the lesser role of scouting and drafting to a team's success. If the chance of getting a great player or at least a player that can help the team in the long run is so low, why should I still invest in scouting? Probably the money spent on scouting is more than that on buying 3 decent allstar trainees. This makes the game less appealing. Draft is no longer a way of investment. Either you train your player hard for a few seasons, if not you'll get little back from your drafting, even though your draftee is not bad.

And as I have mentioned, I know that for some smaller nations (I'm not talking about Bahamas but bigger ones like Singapore and Malaysia), the decrease in the number of good draftees causes real trouble. The effect will start to appear in 2-3 seasons.

Thanks. But good potential draftee is not equal to good draftee. A pern. allstar draftee with $2XXX salary (which means multiple pitiful or awful) is hardly trainable. There are only about 2 18yo draftees with $4XXX salary and star potential or above. There is indeed a $5XXX 18yo, but he is a bench warmer. I believe such situations happen in many leagues.
