Hey everybody

With lots of discussion this season around the draft (as per usual) - i was thinking about doing some Box Score analysis. Basically, get a bunch of guys to take screen caps/make note of, draftee's box score's, and then get those draftee's skill set after the draft, and then do some analysis of '10 turnovers = atrocious handling'.... essentially. :) (Obviously I would do it after the draft, so as to not compromise draft's, and of course only if people were willing to send the skills afterwards!)

Anyways i dont want to do this if this has already been done before. Does anyone know if any analysis of Draft Box Score vs Skillset has been done? I mean statistical analysis, not just 'I drafted a guy who scored 30 points, and he had atrocious JS' conversation.
Let me know.
Thanks

As far as I know, a large scale project was never performed. I know on the USA Offsite, we did a small scale analysis, but it was a pretty minor activity. I'd love to see someone do a large scale project. Obviously, there is a large random factor, but I'd be willing to participate in a study that would get us closer to understanding box scores, which can be frustratingly vague.

ok well i might try and do it at in my league first, see how much of a response i get, and then move out to my division, and maybe the ABBL division, that might give me 20-ish players per league. 5 x 20 - 100 players, might be ok.
Only problem I can see happening is that a lot of the better players, people will keep and wont want to share their stats after the draft.
So my stats may be more skewed towards the 'lesser' quality players. But ill see who wants to share first before I start worrying about that.

I have a screen shot of my player's box score from last season's draft and I'm willing to share, (he's nothing special). But I took the pictures on my phone, not screen caps. Any ideas, or should I just explain?

I have analyzed draft for 3 seasons now. I only take 18yo's. Scout them all and then gather the info from the managers. I have been collecting info in a form of SS10+st+ft. You can't actually see defence in the box score. I still think I don't have enough info, but I do change their performances to 48 minutes (with different constants depending on their minutes in the box score) and then calculate their +-.

Atleast my own drafted players are not exactly what the box score suggested them to be. Some info seems legit, some is misleading to say the least...
