Good Morning Everyone.

I just recently signed up to this game, but unfortunately my team is at the bottom of the ladder.

I clicked on the Draft and Scouting page and found that I was given some scouting points to start with, so I started clicking on the players starting with Player 1.

When I got to Player 2, he come up with 5 balls for star rating. so I decided to interview him.

From the interview, it then showed 5 ball potential, PF as his position, A+ grade rating, 18 years old, and 6'9 - 206cm in height.

So i moved him to the top of my list, so i can draft him (i think cause i am last in my league, i will get him?)

So my question to anyone that can answer is: (And yes i am still reading the game manual and other forum posts)

What Level Trainer should i get for this player when i draft him? Because i am in the lowest Australian League possible.

Or should i maybe sell him when i draft him? from what i have been reading, many people mention this game is a marathon not a sprint, so i assume they mean training up young players and taking time to promote?

or should i just use the money i was given with and buy an already good player with nice skills?

thanks in advance
Stubby

5/5 A+ 18yo PF, that is quite possibly the best scoutee to find. He could be just a glorified C with JS, but he could also be some insanely well-rounded player with HOF potential who could be a killer LI SF/outside PF. I would love to be in your position right now.

To answer your question, I'd wait and see his skills. If he has really well-balanced skills (5-7OD, 5-7JR, 5-7PA are things I would be looking for) then I would definitely keep him, not sell him. Such players can be trained into monster well-balanced SFs which are extremely hard to find on the market, and if you do find them they can cost literally millions. If he doesn't have well balanced skills (say something like 7 JS but 1-3 OD, 1-3 PA, 1-3 JR) I would sell him. Someone will pay you a lot for him, and the money will come in very handy. And serviceable pure inside players can be picked up relatively easily and inexpensively, unlike the well-balanced players who can play both inside and outside.

If he does have good skills and you decide to keep him, I would get at least a level 4 trainer, or a level 5 if you can get one. Beyond that is probably too much to reasonably afford. Technically there has been analysis that level 4 is the most cost-effective, but level 5 will give you 1-2 more pops per season and if you're trying to train a well-rounded player, it will take many seasons to train his skills up and you'll need all the advantages you can get. Those 1-2 extra pops in his 18yo season might save you having to train him for 6+ weeks when he's 27 and you're trying to finish off molding him into the perfect player.

Recap:

1. Wait and see skills before deciding to keep or sell.
1a. Inside skills are almost certainly going to be high because he has an A+ grade. So outside skills should determine whether or not you keep him.
2a. If outside skills are good, keep him, as finding a replacement can be difficult and expensive.
2b. If outside skills are bad, sell him, because the money will be more useful and replacements are cheaper.
3. If outside skills are good and you keep him, at least get a level 4 trainer, preferably a level 5 but only if you can find a cheap one.
4. Give this post a +1 ball. (Shameless, I know.)

Hope this helps!

4 should be plenty, 5 is great. Kennedy knows what he is talking about. However I might consider keeping him because there is a significant increase in merchandise for having a top player on your team be home-drafted, which is even greater if he makes the u21 team down the road.
Then again, maybe I've been listening to Tangosz too much ;)

Never tell managers that just started the game to try to train a U21 national team prospect... please... its just not a good idea at all For a few reasons..

1. They don't know how to train young studs yet and other managers could actually make use of those great players.

2. They could easily promote that very same season by selling them and buying good new players so its more beneficial to them to sell that player.

3. Once that player gets to be 20-21, they probably wont be able to afford having them on their team anymore and will have to sell them anyways. Especially for big men..

Right now i would suggest on selling that player when you get him because it will be more beneficial to you and you could probably promote next season if you sold him and bought a few experienced well skilled players. It does depend on his skills as well though so please... when you get him... post his skills back in this thread so we can see him.

Heres another good thing to consider. You can easily sell a 5/5 A+ rookie for between 1 and 1.5 million bucks depending on the skills. With that 1-1.5 million$ you could simply buy another rookie with less potential that is still just as trainable and you could buy another player or two to help form your team, rather then having a really good rookie that wont do much to help you in the game.

I really think that it depends on two things:

1. How the training is done. Of course if you go ballistic on the salary heavy skills, you'd find yourself not being able to afford to keep him.

2. As for new managers not being able to train players properly, that's a load of bs. It's all down to whether they take the initiative to read up and ask questions.

Personally, I'd keep him. Train up secondaries to keep him balanced and wages low. And research more / ask questions. Getting a 5/5 draft is quite painfully difficult. You'll be kicking yourself seasons from now for selling him.

Inconceivable, there's not way to listen to me too much! :P

Seriously, I'm with Vince. It's not that hard to train players. Ask questions, read up, and plan your training to account for salary increases. Like he said, you may never get another draftee this good.

I think you would be stupid if you sell this player, cause you have just hit the jackpot .
I play this game for almost 3 seasons, and never had a good draftee, this player is just what you need.
Don't worry about training this guy, probably your U21 coach will contact you,and give you some advise how to train this guy.And really its not that difficult,if you have doubts just ask and there are many managers who will give you advise.
What you should do ,is to expand your arena,so you will get more money, build mainly the more expansive seats for now and not bleachers.
If you train this guy well, your merchandise will be skyhigh in a few seasons, and if this player will be to expansive you can always sell him.

You are a lucky.... man:)

I've been playing since season 12.

The best I've ever landed was a HoF with a 2.5k salary, awful OD and awful JR.

And I still trained the bugger for a season before losing patience
