Age of Teams

The cliche is that BB is a marathon and not a sprint. Funny when you look at this league it is overall MUCH younger than the other leagues in general. However the Mighty Doncaster Flames a legend of the game have been around since season two when Australia started and spent an incredible 12 seasons in the ABBL! Karmar, The Victorian Allstars and Western Titans are all also very experienced and knowledgable managers. At the other end we have a ton of very recent teams from seasons 10-12 but lazio@ is by far the youngest making their amazing achievements of making the finals last season even more impressive.

Team Started
Doncaster Flames 2
karmar 7
The Victorian Allstars 8
Western Titans 8
Many Men 9
Chirny Lakers 9
Screaming Eagles 9
Chelsea Seagulls 10
West Island Tigers 10
Flow Gaming 10
Baby Bombers 11
Henley Beach Hawks 11
Persepolis Immortals 11
Viral Infections 11
ACT Blaze 11
lazio@ 12

Last Season

Again it may not mean much as it is a little hard to compare ABBL wins with division III wins but here they are anyway. What I would get out of this is Western Titans, lazio@, Screaming Eagles, West Island Tigers and The Victorian Allstars are the returning teams with great form.

Team Last Season League Wins
Baby Bombers III.14 21
Western Titans II.4 20
Flow Gaming III.1 20
Chirny Lakers III.5 19
Henley Beach Hawks III.13 18
lazio@ II.4 17
Screaming Eagles II.4 17
West Island Tigers II.4 16
The Victorian Allstars II.4 15
Viral Infections II.4 12
ACT Blaze II.4 11
Many Men II.4 9
Doncaster Flames II.4 9
Persepolis Immortals II.4 8
karmar II.4 7
Chelsea Seagulls ABBL 1

Salaries of Top Three Players Combined

I can't be bothered adding up all the salaries of all the players on all the teams in the league and BBstats isnt working for season 19 yet so this will have to do. Obviously it doesn't reflect depth, cost effective players etc but it is a good rough and ready measure of what everyone is doing. Note however Karmar is selling their top player and Naker is selling his whole roster (as usual).

Team Top 3 players Total
karmar 103 101 91 295
Viral Infections 155 88 50 293
Many Men 143 90 48 281
Western Titans 101 84 81 266
Screaming Eagles 152 60 54 266
Chelsea Seagulls 136 62 56 254
The Victorian Allstars 79 78 64 221
ACT Blaze 75 71 70 216
lazio@ 95 55 37 187
Persepolis Immortals 70 59 55 184
West Island Tigers 104 34 33 171
Henley Beach Hawks 92 32 29 153
Chirny Lakers 58 50 35 143
Baby Bombers 45 42 35 122
Doncaster Flames 79 7 6 92
Flow Gaming 7 6 6 19

Comment on each Team

ACT Blaze from the famous III.12 the second toughest division III they have done brilliantly in division II but have now been cruelly struck down with a long injury to their best player. They say they will now be looking at just surviving this season in 6th or 7th.

Baby Bombers a teriffic 2-0 start has them at the top of the Big 8 meaning their next game which is against the Seagulls will leave only one team undefeated in the Big 8. It was funny that after two seasons in IV.14 they then had 6 seasons stuck in III.14. They have one of the smallest arenas I have ever seen in division II (Total Capacity : 8645 ) and this will put a very tight salary cap on their team until something is done about it.

Chelsea Seagulls relegated from the ABBL after a season of deleberate tanking to make money and do training I wasn't so happy with my $1,000,000 draft pick turning out rather badly. Organiser of the Fishbowl PL and manager of the India U21 team I have rather a lot to do here. I like training players, the color green and swimming in the ocean.

Chirny Lakers had a rough start to their BB journey, after five seasons they were back in division IV. Since then their fortunes have changed including a top 32 in the cup and last season the division III championship where in game three of the finals they were 10 down at the start of the 4th, what a time to have the best quarter of the season! They have Bill Corser (18085653) a HoF SF draft pick that I would kill to have drafted this season but he does look a bit behind in his training.

Doncaster Flames one of the greatest teams of all time they spent an amazing 12 seasons in the ABBL before apparently recently flirting with bankruptcy. It looks like they are taking the season to try and rebuild their coffers but watch out, 12 seasons in the ABBL means one of the best and most experienced managers around.

Flow Gaming has already revealed their cards. They are tanking, training and hoping for a $1,000,000 draft pick so they can bounce right back. That sightless blank face is a little scary as will be their bank balance at the end of a season of paying no salaries.

Henley Beach Hawks in a game where most are changing their team constantly the Hawks are an abberation. Sold one player ever. Bought a total of four players. Almost everyone on their entire team was trained from a raw 18 or 19 year old rookie, but they probably lack the big guns to match it with the powers of this league unless they make another dip into the TL and come out with another impact player to join U21 star Nghiem Nguyên. They have one of the largest arenas I have ever seen for a promoting team (Total Capacity : 18000 ) I guess instead of buying players they had to spend their money on something.

karmar a very widely respected team that backs down from no-one it seems that their manager has been very busy in the last two seasons so the team has suffered a little bit. It wouldn't take much to get them back to the top but they are just as likely to be hanging around the bottom if the interest isn't there.

Part Two

lazio@ there aren't that many teams I openly admire but this is on eof the best managed teams in all of Aussie BB, from the first they have shown brilliant expertise maximising their profits by either being the champion or being relegated in all of their first six seasons, then last season they made it all the way to the top 16 of the cup. Wow. All this at the same time as training SFs widely regarded as by far the hardest training in the game but they have made it look easy making millions in profit. Very impressive!

Many Men also frm the legendary III.12 they really do have many men and in a couple of days may have the top paid trio in the league. A lack of depth may make three games a week a big challenge for them but like most teams that finally get out of a tough division III they have the skills needed to survive.

Persepolis Immortals one of the most outspoken and radical firebrands on BB seems to have been very quiet here in the league boards. He doesn't know the meaning of TANK or TIE and likes to go all out all the time. His love of big hairy middle eastern men is well known.

Screaming Eagles top 16 in the cup a few seasons ago was impressive, but top four last season was simply amazing. Can they repeat that incredible feat? Do they want to? Already scary but with a recent addition of a top SF Usami Kamio for $1.4 million they are looking even more threatening.

The Victorian Allstars and I have a long history going way back to season 11 when I surprised everyone by upsetting him to take the III.6 championship. The Chris Bosh fan has two great young big men and used to be known for his many clever deals made on the TL but that seems to have died off recently. Very experienced and maybe with a grudge against me, this is another very capable manager that no-one should underestimate.

Viral Infections I could write an essay about Naker, one of my oldest friends in this game. He plays the opposite way from me but has had incredible success. One of the most prolific traders in Australia you never know what you will be facing if you play him next week, most scouting is best done an hour before the match. One memorable thing was when he announced he was going to relegate we all said wouldn't if be funny if he ended up in III.6, that nightmare of a league. Guess what? That is where he ended!

West Island Tigers this all Australian team gave Slam ! last seasons champion their toughest test last season having an injury in the SF and then losing by 10. Perhaps a little predictable last season where game after game they just gave the ball to the Man-Dick and let him go to work, this season looks to be more of the same.

Western Titans another long time league member they were tragically upset in the SF by lazio@ when their star player Udi went down early to inury and then lost by 2 denying them a finals series against Slam ! who they had beaten easily in their match during the season. Udi is finally being caught by training partner Bento Filho giving them probably the best frontline in the league.

wow Yoda, that took me 20 minutes to read it all, I can imagine how long it took to put it together, well done. Good write ups and funny to see the voting trend, whilst I would like to think Lazio or Titans could push for promotion I think everyone is aware of your intentions to head back up to ABBL sooner than later. We will enjoy having you add to the forum whilst you reside with us. :) Good luck all in your cup games tonight, can't imagine there would be too much risk in round 1 though.

Good effort yoda! Wish you could be in my league every year just so I can read good reports like that. I have already bought two decent trainees, excited to see how my 5k hall of famer turns out!

Thanks guys. Yes Vios your pants down preview is an inspiration. I think you were the first but I remember abigfishy doing something statistical about season 11 and I really liked it.
