Ever since I started this game, I have always wondered just how important is OD on a C/PF. Since it doesn't add much to the salary I wondered why so many players don't bother to train it. When I was playing in the season 15 final in D 5, I went up against the Wildkatz who where a dominant inside team then and still are in their D IV league. The wildkatz had TIEd the whole season and had a C/PF combo with a salary almost as high as my entire team. My vet C Liapis only had 8 ID and 7 OD at the time up against a C (Willie Webb) who had a 12k salary and would have a 24k salary at the beginning of the next season (He is now a 72k C that is only 22). My C dominated his in both games leading to easy underdog victories for my team. I am certain from viewing the games that the OD had a large effect because Willie put great offensive stats during the season while on TIEing! Despite the greater inside skills, LI strategy and greater enthusiasm my C outscored and out rebounded his C easily.

Look closely at the stats for Willie Webb vs my old C Yianis Liapis

Here are the two games. http://www.buzzerbeater.com/match/32820374/boxscore.aspx Game 1

http://www.buzzerbeater.com/match/32820375/boxscore.aspx Game 2

Ever since, I have always looked for bigs to atleast have OD in the 5-7 range minimum. The only other key factor in the match up could have been Yianis' massive experience advantage, but considering the difference on both offense and defense it is hard to be believe experience alone could make up for it. So has anyone else noticed that bigs with better OD cause less good shots and more turnovers? It seems like good OD helps bigs 'Deny players the ball" in the low post.

I personally rate OD as very important on PFs. For Centers, I don't think it weights too much. probably 5-7 it's OK. Besides, having good OD on PF might help to make another defense (other than M2M) tactic to work effectively (Inside box and One comes to mind).

On the side note, having high OD (6-10) on Bigs, might help in some cases to foul less.

Yeah, i agree OD on PF's, because there are a lot of good outside shooting power forwards, but is it wise to train pf's in OD? Because it seems like it would take longer since they're taller than gaurds. Does anyone have any experience in training pf's in OD?

How are PF's going to get higher OD without training them?

It's always advantageous to train guard skills for your bigs, it makes them better more well-rounded players without bumping their salary.

I trained OD to my PF two seasons ago, height 208cm, age 22, and he popped once in four weeks with the occasional pop in other skills.

On the other hand, not everyone can afford a 400k a week center. Generally players seem to have a plan for salary. Once a player's salary gets to about the maximum a player can afford, than why pump him with more stats for the net 1-2 seasons if you plan on using him to fill your team and not just to trade? After a player gets a salary over 100k how much more do you need to pump the primaries? Since the bigs with good secondaries often sell for a lot more, it may even be a better financial choice to train the secondaries after a certain point. If you do a market search for PFs who have good inside skills and 10+ JS and OD you could be looking at players going for over a million. So from a budgeting standpoint, you get a well rounded player with a lower salary (unless you want a player whose salary is most of an entire team). From a trading standpoint, outside skills are rare... a truly well rounded big who has great primaries and the ability to shoot, pass and put pressure on the outside is rare to the point of a huge price. Either way secondaries look like a good value, but so few players bother to train them.
