i don't think that you could answer this generally ;)

Because this highly depends on your "roleplayer" and his teammates and also the opposition teams and tactics.

Well, that's difficult as you see I have firsthand experience with this, and often you must be careful with a defensive soecialist as they can stagnate your offense. Even if you are say, playing LI, and have your guy playing SG, the bigs will presumably be doubled and kick out the post to him and he will miss an open shot. It can be assumed he also passes up shots and stagnates the offense that way. The pbp isn't very comprehensive in terms of analyzing these things but it is key to think in these terms.

Aparenly, nowadays is not really smart to leave him open in the final minute of a game either... SPECIALLY during the NBA finals...

ONTOPIC: In my opinion, you shouldn't move him from his suited position(Bowen matchuped against nash or amare, but he still played the 3), cause i don't think he can destroy your offense. The thing is that, to me, it's almost the same as a great scorer with no D: you need to put in the balance if having more defense is worth sacrificing some offense.
IMO balance is the key to consider here.

I apologize for my lack of spelling,

and defensiv stoppers also works here, i have a very long time an Wallace like Center or should i say two ;)

And maybe my ex Guard Rocha, counts as another D specialist, even when he wasn't a total scrub in offense.

you are right NBA teams can still be great with players lacking in shooting skills, but imagine how much better they would be had wallace been able to knock down some shots. Also the nba is different than any other level of play because there are so many insanely good scorers that having 4 can be enough
