As for your other two points, we're still thinking about the best way to do commentary in this regard, but in a zone defense, it's much more often the case compared to man-to-man that there will be multiple nearby defenders who are sharing the defensive workload. In such cases, we end up picking the one who's geographically the closest, but that might be somewhat misleading because zone is really a team defense. For example, imagine that a player is doubled in the post with the PG rotating down to help out. The player with the ball could be thought of as taking the shot against either the C or the PG, perhaps. For some reason, when we watched game tapes, we found that players with good offensive skills tended to prefer rolling towards the PG rather than towards the C when making an inside move against a double team. :) But in reality, it would be appopriate to think of there as being multiple defenders.
It's also the case that against a team with good offensive flow compared to your defensive skills, a zone defense can be prone to mismatches created by strong offense. In man-to-man, this would be reported with the usual defender, because we do pick the man defender even when he's badly beaten and unable to contest the shot very well. In a zone, we simply pick the nearest defender if the shot is open. I suspect this might be what you're seeing on the mid-range jumpers; for example, the SF finding a hole at the top of the key and taking a jumper where the C is getting there a little too late but reacts more quickly than anybody else.
BB-Charles:
We'll explain enough to give you an idea of what to aim at, but in the season 9 and 10 news the general idea has already been announced; merchandise sales from your own fans will be higher if you have domestic players and your own draft picks playing key roles, merchandise sales from fans of other teams in your league, country, or around the world will be higher if you have some individuals putting up eye-popping stats, and national team players earn for their clubs a share of the national team merchandise sold each week. When we run the update this evening, I suspect it will be readily apparent how much is coming from each piece, and we'll try to update the rules in such a manner that it is readily understandable.
BB-Forest: every season salaries are updated, in the past, they were growing one way and had a specific relationship to player skills.. that relationship is going to change... there will be no extra income explicitly given, the salary formula will change, that is all.
