HGK Season 1 / Round 2Like Round 1, the second round of the HGK saw big wins across the league. There were no close games this round despite home and away wins.
WiMaOlCa travelled to Alberto Mario Mestre arena, home of the mighty Santa Eufemia Ducks and, as the home crowd had hoped, were soundly beaten by 41-points (103-62). This one was all the Ducks as they started the game keeping WiMaOlCa's boys to a mere 4 points in the opening quarter as the Ducks easily ran this game out unwilling to drop even a single quarter and remain undefeated to start the season.
Meanwhile, Les Gueux du Marais travelled to SPB Eagles arena and secured a storng away win against the winless Eagles. LGM cruised through the first three quarters before the Eagles rallied in the fourth. However, it was too little too late as LGM went on to win this game by 17-points 94-77 in the closest game of the round.
Over at the Silver River arena, almost 17000 fans watched a fast-flowing high-scoring affair as the Swan River Serpents and the Westopian Tigers met in their inter-club match. The Tigers struggled to keep up the pace and despite barely winning the final quarter by a couple points, were soundly defeated on the Serpents' home court 151-121. In the third quarter, some consider the 'championship quarter, the Serpents piled on 45 points, essentially breaking the Tigers' hopes of a victory. The Serpents finish this one with a 30-point victory and suddenly find themselves towards the top of the ladder.
Game 4 saw two Utopian teams meet with the Bamberg Gladiators denying the Lions a chance to take their first win on their home court. The Lions had no answers all night and even though the coach tried desperately to limit their opponent's outside scoring, they were unable to prevent the Gladiators from draining 12 treys from downtown as the Gladiators won this Utopian battle 106-58 and secured top spot on the ladder with a 2-0 record.
The final game of the round saw the Flower of Scotland register their first win of the season after the following week's disappointing loss to the Ducks. In this game, the Flower of Scotland drew on their home crowd to comfortably win the first three quarters, holding a 33-point lead going into the fourth. Vindicta, struggling with the FOS and their home court advantage, rallied in the fourth and chipping a little away from the FOS. Jioshoo threw everything but the kitchen sink at their opponents, choosing excellent defensive tactics, to sadly see this one get away from them. The Flower of Scotland with a strong 27-point victory at home, winning 93-66.
