Philippines Falls to Hot-Shooting Israel, 132–116

The Philippines fought hard but couldn’t keep up with Israel’s offensive firepower, falling 132–116 in a high-scoring National Team Round Robin clash at Touhidul Arena.

Israel’s uptempo “Run and Gun” attack was on full display, converting 52.5% of their shots and knocking down 14 of 30 triples at an impressive 46.7% clip.

Benson Villarivera paced the Philippines with 34pts on an efficient 16-of-21 shooting with 8rebs, while Ericson Regidor added 31pts, 5rebs and 6asts. Despite their efforts, the Filipinos struggled from long range, connecting on just 4 of 18 3-pt attempts.

The loss drops the Philippines to 0–1 in the World Cup - Pool B, while Israel showcased why they’re the champions of Europe and one of the best teams in the competition. The Filipinos will aim to regroup and bounce back stronger in their next matchup against World#15 Serbia.

Serbia Overpowers Philippines, 126–108

The game was tight early on, with both teams deadlocked at 28 after the first quarter. However, Srbija began to pull away in the second quarter outscoring the Philippines 36–27 holding a 9pt lead at the break. We were unable to close in as they pulled away in the 3rd quarter.

Melecio Sidad paced the team with 23pts, 4rebs & 2asts, while Benson Villarivera had 18pts, 3rebs & 2asts. Clodualdo Salinel added 17pts, 6rebs & 4asts. Despite shooting a solid 46.4% from three (13 of 28) and 6 players scoring in double figures, the team struggled to contain Serbia's offense.

With the win, Serbia moves to a 2-0 while we slump into a 0-2 start. The Philippines looks to regroup and tighten its defense heading into the next matchup against World#12 Estonia.
